Should I replace my boiler?

Untitled

With so many flashy models in the market, it’s probably hard to resist the temptation to purchase a new boiler for your place. But, do you really need it? Answer yourself the following questions and find out once and for all if you actually could use a new boiler to improve your house or apartment.

How old is it?

No item in your house can last forever, and this includes your boiler. Even though most of them are known to last for 10 to maximum 15 years; when they reach this age not only do they start malfunctioning, they can also be obsolete and stop complying with new safety regulations. This can be detrimental to your home’s safety and end up damaging other structures of the building. They might also stop being as efficient as they were before and start making you pay higher bills.

Have you expanded your house?

Not much people take this point into account, but when you make an expansion or remodeling on your house or apartment  you should think of a boiler replacement Glasgow. Boilers are installed taking into consideration matters such as the number of bedrooms, bathrooms and overall space the boiler will need to warm up. Adding more rooms or expanding spaces in your place makes it impossible for your current boiler to fully serve the new space’s needs. Any important house expansion should be accompanied by a boiler change.

Has your household grown?

Not only bigger spaces call for a change of boiler, a bigger family is also an important factor. Asides from warming your place during winter, boilers are in charge of heating up the water everyone will use to take showers, do laundry and wash the dishes. If the household grows because a new baby was born or you got a new roommate, your current boiler might not cover the needs of each member. In this case, think about getting a new boiler Glasgow to keep everyone in your household comfortable and happy.

Do you notice signs of damage?

As we mentioned before, an aging boiler can start showing signs of malfunctioning or damage. You should be on the look for signs of this because not only will it stop working altogether very soon, it could end up causing an accident and putting your home and your family at risk. Some classic signs of a damaged boiler are sooting near or on top of the boiler, strange noises when it’s working, a strong smell of gas or fumes and a flame that either lights out or changes constantly from blue to yellow.

These are the basic questions you must ask yourself in order to decide if you should install a new boiler at your place. Of course, your actual boiler might be just fine but there’s always the desire to turn your home into an eco-friendly space and you want to install an energy-saving model. Whatever your motivation is, it’s always a good idea to keep your house updated with a modern boiler.
